The marimba ensemble of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT) was established in March 1974. It is a professional group dedicated to promoting and showcasing the musical traditions of the Guatemalan marimba in all its artistic expressions — concert, folkloric, and popular — both nationally and internationally. The marimba, Guatemala’s national instrument and patriotic symbol, is presented as a key part of the country’s rich cultural and artistic heritage.
The group has participated in international events across North, Central, and South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Japan, proudly representing Guatemala and its musical legacy.
Over the years, many renowned composers, arrangers, and marimba performers have been part of this prestigious ensemble, contributing to its reputation. In 1989, it was honored as «Artists of the Year» by Revista de las Naciones and Teatro Abril.
Today, the ensemble is composed of highly skilled musicians capable of performing a wide range of musical genres, consistently demonstrating professionalism in every performance.
