Article 9. Functions of the Tourism Product Development Directorate.
The Tourism Product Development Directorate is responsible for preparing and implementing strategic plans that promote territorial planning, heritage conservation, development, investment, and the promotion of tourism activity and quality, in accordance with national tourism laws, regulations, policies, and strategies. Its functions include:

  1. Plan, organize, direct, execute, and supervise all activities related to tourism planning and promotion.

  2. Advise senior authorities and their departments on tourism product development matters.

  3. Propose policies, strategies, objectives, and national tourism development plans for the country, both short-term, medium-term, and long-term.

  4. Determine areas of national tourist interest and develop general tourism planning plans.

  5. Coordinate, together with the General Directorate of INGUAT, the implementation of the strategic tourism development plan and tourism policies.

  6. Coordinate the research, planning, and development of tourist facilities, the inventory of tourist attractions, and the comprehensive development of high-traffic tourist areas in the country.

  7. Coordinate the development, conservation, and enhancement of the country’s natural and cultural heritage.

  8. Work with municipalities to develop technical studies for the development of tourist facilities.

  9. Keep the map and inventory of tourist sites updated.

  10. Monitor agreements signed with institutions involved in the tourism development of Guatemala.

  11. Provide technical support to committees, associations, and other entities established for tourism development purposes.

  12. Manage and implement tourist signage across the country.

  13. Ensure the quality of tourism-related information and specialized content disseminated to the tourism sector and the public.

  14. Manage training and development for tourism personnel, coordinating relevant actions with corresponding bodies.

  15. Ensure that the regulation for the operation of tourism businesses is updated and complied with.

  16. Coordinate, integrate, and execute the budget for this directorate to maximize the efficiency of resources used.

  17. Archive and safeguard documentation related to the area.

  18. Ensure compliance with institutional norms and policies.

  19. Consolidate and approve work reports, annual and multi-annual operational plans, budgets, procurement plans, fulfillment of physical goals, and others.
